Transmission issues usually announce themselves before they become catastrophic. Slipping between gears, hard or delayed shifts, grinding noises, shuddering under acceleration, a burning smell, or fluid leaks under the car. These are all signs that something needs attention. The sooner you address transmission symptoms, the less expensive the repair tends to be.
We start every transmission job with a thorough diagnosis. That means checking fluid condition and level, scanning for fault codes, road testing to replicate the symptoms, and inspecting the transmission and its related components. We don't recommend a rebuild when a fluid change and solenoid replacement will solve the problem, and we won't tell you it's fine when it isn't.
We handle the full range of transmission work. Drain and fill services to keep your fluid fresh. Clutch replacements for manual transmissions. Electrical repairs for solenoids, sensors, and wiring that control shift quality. Seal and gasket replacement for leaks. And when the internals are worn beyond repair, we do complete transmission rebuilds, disassembling the unit, replacing worn components, and reassembling it to spec.
Whether it's a five-speed manual or an automatic, we have the tools and experience to get it shifting properly again.
SAAB Expertise
SAAB used a variety of transmissions over the years, and each has its own characteristics. The classic 900's transaxle, with the engine mounted backward over the gearbox, is a completely unique design that most shops won't touch. The NG900 and 9-3 moved to a more conventional layout but still have SAAB-specific transmission variants. The 9-5 automatic is known for certain valve body issues that we've repaired hundreds of times.
We do full transmission rebuilds for SAAB vehicles, including the harder-to-find classic 900 gearboxes. We keep common wear items in stock and know the specific failure patterns for each model and year. If your 9-3 is having harsh shifts, your 9-5 is slipping, or your classic 900 is popping out of gear, we've almost certainly dealt with that exact problem before.
SAAB owners who prefer a manual transmission, and many do, will find that we take particular care with these gearboxes. They're part of what makes a SAAB a SAAB.
