Finding the Real Problem

A check engine light can mean a hundred different things. Loose gas cap, failing oxygen sensor, misfiring cylinder, catalytic converter issue. The light itself doesn't tell you much. That's where proper diagnostics come in. We don't just pull a code and guess. We read the full data stream, check freeze frame data, run live tests, and trace the problem back to its actual source.

Whether you're dealing with a rough idle, reduced power, poor fuel economy, or a warning light that won't go away, we'll figure out exactly what's going on before recommending any work. No parts-swapping, no guesswork. You get a clear explanation of what we found and what it'll take to fix it.

Beyond the Code Reader

Generic code readers from the parts store will give you a fault code. That's a starting point, not a diagnosis. Real diagnostic work means understanding how the engine management system works, what the sensor values should look like under different conditions, and what happens when they don't. We use OE-level scan tools that can access manufacturer-specific modules, run actuator tests, and read data that aftermarket scanners simply can't see.

We also handle electrical diagnosis: intermittent faults, wiring issues, ground problems, and sensor failures that don't always set a code. These are the problems that other shops struggle with, and they're the ones we're best at solving.

SAAB Expertise

Trionic, Tech 2, and Why SAAB Diagnostics Are Different

SAAB's Trionic engine management system was ahead of its time. It uses ion sensing technology through the ignition cassette to detect knock and misfires, essentially turning the spark plugs into sensors. It's brilliant engineering, but it also means diagnosing a SAAB requires understanding how these systems interact in ways that generic scanners and general-purpose shops simply don't.

We use the SAAB Tech 2, the factory diagnostic tool designed specifically for these cars. It gives us access to every module in the vehicle, lets us run component tests, read adaptation values, and see data that no aftermarket tool can provide. From Trionic 5 in classic 900s to Trionic 8 in later 9-3s and 9-5s, we know these systems inside and out.

If your SAAB has a persistent check engine light, intermittent running issues, or a problem that another shop couldn't figure out, bring it to us. Chances are we've seen it before.

For non-SAAB vehicles, availability of this service may vary depending on the vehicle and scope of work. Give us a call and we'll let you know if we can help.
